Generating savings through monitoring

The importance of monitoring the energy in the industry

IN BRIEF/
< The great advantage of energy monitoring is that it allows you to identify consumption patterns, as well as detect anomalies and operational problems immediately, as these fluctuations in energy consumption can indicate machinery failures, loss of efficiency or even potential safety risks. >

Nowadays, companies need to implement energy monitoring and management systems in industrial processes, as they are of great use for efficient energy use and to meet carbon reduction targets. In 2020 alone, energy consumption in the industrial sector in Mexico was 60.2% of the national total (according to figures from the Ministry of Energy). In addition, it is estimated that around 30% of this energy is wasted due to the lack of implementation of these systems.

Additionally, DataCenter Knowledge in 2020 presented a study in which they found that data centers around the world consumed 205 terawatt-hours of electricity, or equivalent to 1 percent of all electricity consumed that year worldwide.

The great advantage of energy monitoring is that it can identify consumption patterns, as well as detect anomalies and operational problems immediately, as these fluctuations in energy consumption can indicate machine failures, loss of efficiency or even potential security risks. This information supports long-term planning, allowing companies to adapt to changes in energy prices, comply with environmental regulations and anticipate market trends.

Benefits

One example of these benefits is the case of Tanishq Jewelry, an innovator in the jewelry industry based in India, where they sought to upgrade their retail IT infrastructure including the implementation of Data Center Expert, which provided them with not only savings in electrical power and space allocation efficiency, but on-site monitoring tools for power, cooling, security and data center environment. The company expects at least a 10% to 15% reduction in its energy costs over the next couple of years.

The benefits of energy monitoring are obvious. Reducing operational costs related to direct and indirect energy consumption translates into substantial economic savings. Energy monitoring is not only a technical tool, but a strategic driver for the competitiveness and sustainability of industrial companies.
